Sarah Murphy is a jewelry artist from Columbus, Ohio who combines her love of metalwork with the use of recycled materials. She graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) where she received her M.F.A. in Jewelry Design. Her work challenges the standard of perfection in jewelry making by working with uncontrollable forms and materials deemed invaluable. Her technique involves creating her own ‘gems’ by recycling discarded plastic from her family’s factory. Her work expresses a belief that jewelry is not a precious object due to its material value, but rather due to the invisible narrative connected to it.
